What is included in the program? The program has 3 tracks: Network Administrator, Web Developer, and Web Designer. Network Administrators will learn how to set up the data communications, hardware and software necessary for websites and e-commerce. They will learn UNIX, network design and management, high-speed connections ( Frame-Relay, T-1, DSL, and more ), and server design and management. Web Developers and Web Designers will learn how to create advanced websites. UNIX, Java, and Database development are emphasized in both Web programs. Web Developers further learn advanced programming, including C, PERL, JAVA, and SQL with Oracle, whereas Web Designers learn multimedia, animation, and design of e-commerce systems.
Do I have to decide which track I want right away? For planning purposes, GC&SU and ISP Alliance need to know which students are pursuing which tracks ( 10 per track ). Therefore, you will indicate your preference during the selection process, but you may change your track after the program has begun with the agreement of ISP Alliance and GC&SU.
How much does it cost and when do I pay? ICAPP courses have the same credit hour cost as regular courses. The program is considered to be 48 semester hours with 24 hours counting toward the Information Systems major at GC&SU. Under the current course fee rate, the total cost is tentatively estimated at about $4000 plus book and class material costs estimated at $1500. Students can pay for it with their own funds, HOPE scholarships, standard scholarships or grants, or with special student loans that are forgiven at a rate of 20% per year for each year they stay in Georgia after the program. Payment is due at the beginning of the program.
How many students are in the program and how do I get in? Thirty (30) students are admitted every six months – 10 students for each of the Network Administrator, Web Developer, and Web Designer tracks.
How can I use the credit in a degree program at GC&SU? Undergraduate Information Systems (ISC) majors in the School of Business: Those completing the ICAPP are treated as having completed 24 hours of undergraduate IS credit. The students will still need one additional course: CBIS 4214-Information Systems Deployment. Non-Information Systems students or those already with a Bachelor’s Degree: All students completing the program will receive a Network Administrator, Web Developer, or Web Designer certificate indicating the completion of their program. Business students may wish to complete the one additional course in the undergraduate ISC program to attain a second major.
Do I have to work for ISP Alliance after I complete the program? While the intent is for students to work for ISP Alliance, which is supporting this program, students completing the program do not have to enter into employment with ISP Alliance if they choose not to. |
